This is the cover for GameAxis [link], which is a local video game magazine. They have an article about BlizzCon, and so they wanted a pic featuring some of the girls from Blizzard games. Well, ok, so I also wanted to do a girly cover.... So anyway, we picked Nova from Starcraft, the Blood Elf chick from the upcoming WoW expansion, and some generic mage girl.

I was initially going to do a vector cover but then ran out of time and instead decided to paint it. The girls were drawn seperately and composited together in Photoshop and then painted in Painter, before being finished up back in Photoshop. I think it's possible to do it all in Painter, but I'm too lazy to figure out how right now.

Anyway it's a free magazine (but not shoddy, unlike some other free magazines.... and even some other *paid* local game magazines I might add), so pick up a copy if you see it at the Coffee Bean and other places. There's a list on the website if you want to check what's nearest to you.

*Note*
I'm not sure if I have to put this, but.... Blizzard, Warcraft, World of Warcraft, Nova, Starcraft are copyright Blizzard Entertainment.

The generic mage girl is so awesome. It's all about the fire. Great job there.

Pretty cool. It's sometimes nice to break away from the normal process (like opting against vectors) and simply showing what you can do with simple rasterized images. It shows you can still have the clean, fluid look to characters, and don't need a computer's mathmatical accuracy to get it.
