Your picture looks very cool. Although, I'd rather place the girl towards the right side of the picture to create some extra space at the top left corner and enhance rhythm.

Me, I used Illustrator a lot. The easy+quick+dirty trick to paths is locating the inflexion points first - that is, the places where the path changes its behaviour from convex to concave and vice-versa. Those are the points where a node has to be placed. Then, you add nodes in the path extrema - that is, maxima and minima, and you are done with a minimum & efficient node count to the path, without the need of adding extra nodes ad infinitum.

And yes, all that speech is not from art. Actually, I got it from differential calculus, but it works wonders. ;-)
